- The case concerns the sale of fake crypto-asset and illegal receipt of funds.
In South Korea, celebrities and popular bloggers were accused of involvement in a fraudulent scheme of the sports blockchain platform Winnerz, writes The Korea Herald.
The scandal erupted after anonymous investors accused the said company of creating a fake cryptocurrency. Users said that Winnerz sells non-existent digital assets, collects money from customers and blocks withdrawals.
The media claimed that on February 5, 2024, the company was prosecuted for fraud. However, there has been no confirmation of this information from law enforcement agencies at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Korean comedian Na Sun-uk has been accused of being involved in the Winnerz case. Users spotted him in a photo from a party organized by the platform’s management.
The comedian denies his involvement with Winnerz, but admits that he saw members of its team on two occasions.
“Both meetings were short lunches. I have nothing to do with Winnerz and I want to make it clear that I have never been involved in coin investments,” the entertainer said.
The creators of the YouTube channel Shortbox, which has over 2.85 million subscribers, also deny any connection with the company. They claim that they had no business relationship with the management of the platform. The reason for the accusations against them was a photo in which they pose together with a certain Choi Seung-joon.
The mentioned person is believed to be one of the executives of Winnerz. Previously, he was suspected of involvement in the GDG and TYP token fraud. In both cases, investors were blocked from withdrawing funds without paying compensation.
The blogger Oking was also at the center of the scandal. He admitted that he invested in Winnerz and announced his intention to withdraw his assets. At the same time, the platform’s website lists Oking as one of the company’s executives, the media noted.
The firm denies all allegations of fraud. The team stated that the crypto asset Winnerz is traded on foreign platforms, and the company itself has always been open about its business.
Recall, we wrote that South Korea obliged public officials to disclose information about cryptocurrency assets.
