The politician shared his opinion on the matter during an interview for Fox News Channel before the South Carolina primary. The bitcoin issue came up amid Trump’s criticism of the central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The host cited the example of China, whose authorities are actively working on the launch of this payment solution. When asked if approving bitcoin would be the next logical step for Trump, he responded with the following:
“I’ve always liked one currency, the dollar. Bitcoin, it’s taken on a life of its own. Obviously, we will still need some regulation. However, it is growing in popularity. I see more and more people who want to pay with bitcoins. It’s something interesting, and I can reconcile that. But I’ve always liked the dollar.”
Previously, Donald Trump repeatedly criticized crypto-assets, in particular bitcoin. However, the politician has changed his position. He not only invested in cryptocurrencies, but also released several of his own NFT-collections.
