TRANSACTION SECURITY ALERTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO METAMASK USERS

  • The MetaMask team has officially introduced the Transaction Security Alerts feature.
  • It supports work in Ethereum, BNB Chain, Linea, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche networks.
  • The feature aims to improve protection against hacking and hacker attacks.

MetaMask crypto wallet developer Consensys has announced the official launch of transaction security alerts. They aim to better protect users from phishing and hacker attacks.

🔐Privacy-focused MetaMask Security Alerts from  @blockaid_, initially added in October, are now default for all Extension users and coming to Mobile under “Experimental”. Be sure to opt-in on Mobile!

As a reminder, in October 2023, the developers first introduced the option of suspicious transaction alerts as part of their partnership with the Blockaid startup. Now it has become available to all cryptocurrency wallet users by default.

“Alerts are officially available in the MetaMask browser extension. Our commitment to asset security has only increased,” ConsenSys said.

According to the developers, the feature will let you know about suspicious transactions even before they are signed. It supports working on networks such as Ethereum, BNB Chain, Linea, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche.

Informing users about threats in real time is expected to help reduce illicit transactions and promote cryptocurrency adoption, the company said. The solution from ConsenSys and Blockaid is available to users of the browser extension and mobile app (experimental mode).

Earlier, Incrypted’s editorial team made a comparative analysis of crypto wallets and figured out which apps are best for storing assets:

Senior Product Manager Barbara Shorchit said that the new feature involves automatically sending alerts about potentially malicious transactions, including those related to phishing, fraud and hacking attempts. According to Blockworks, 576,000 unique MetaMask users enabled Blockaid alerts during beta testing, preventing more than 30,000 unwanted actions.

ConsenSys added that Blockaid’s integration to protect OpenSea NFT traders prevented $500 million in asset theft, with the alerts feature preventing more than 1.3 million malicious transactions in total.

As the developers noted, the number of active cryptocurrency wallet users has grown by 55% over the past four months. In January, more than 30 million people used the MetaMask application. The last time such a surge in activity was seen was in early 2022, the source claimed.

“We defined an active user as someone who opened the mobile app or logged into the MetaMask browser extension at least once within 30 days,” Barbara Shorchit said.

We previously reported that the MetaMask team is testing transaction routing. It aims to improve the user experience when making transfers.

In January 2024, ConsenSys developers unveiled a new service for Ethereum staking that simplifies the launch of validator nodes and provides secure resource management.
